Financial assistance to be used toward up to 12 months of past due rent, plus an additional 3 months based on discretion of program for people whose income was impacted due to COVID-19 (maximum of 15 months total). Rent arrears are eligible for coverage beginning March 13, 2020. Applicants may receive assistance with all or part of their owed rent depending on program assessment of eligibility. Payments are made directly to landlords on behalf of tenants. Lot rent, security deposits, and late fees are not eligible at this time.

Eligibility Requirements

Adult residents of Portage, Marquette, Outagamie, Waupaca, or Waushara Counties with household income at or below 80% of the county median income in the two months prior to application date (or as evidenced by IRS 2020 Tax Return).

Applicants income must have been impacted due to COVID-19. This could include loss of or reduction in income, or other impacts, including extra expenses due to COVID-19.

If a household receives a monthly federal subsidy (Housing Choice Voucher, Public Housing, Project-Based Rental Assistance, or Tenant-Based Rental Assistance) and the tenant’s rent is adjusted according to changes in household income, the household may receive WERA assistance for their personal portion of the rental agreement.

Mortgages do not qualify.
